explosivemoogle:

Tagging this so that every ignorant little girl who looks at thinspo everyday and is trying to develop an ED for her ‘summer body’ will see this.

You’re playing with death, and you’re making a mockery out of people who actually have Anorexia, like the girl in this video. Eating disorders are not about ‘looking hot’ or getting ready for summer. They’re mental illnesses. They’re not beautiful and they’re not something to look up to. They kill so many people, and destroy lives.

This is not glorious. This is not ‘hipster.’ This is not attractive, so stop posting tips on how to starve until you’ve developed it. Stop posting thinspo. Stop talk about ‘ana and mia,’ because ‘they’ are not your friends. They are not people. They’re illnesses that kill you.

The girl in this video died two months after they stopped shooting, because she couldn’t recover before her body have up. She died trying to recover, and trying to spread the word that Anorexia is not a joke.

Don’t make her struggle out to be something wonderful, because it wasn’t.

Think Twice Before You Praise Someone For Losing Weight

letstalkabouted:

It’s really the most natural reaction: when we see a friend, colleague, family member, or acquaintance who has visibly lost weight, we love to say to them, “You’ve lost weight! You look great!”

These statements are usually made with the best of intentions. We are genuinely happy for them, we want to show them that their hard work and sacrifices are being noticed and deserve to be acknowledged. But I want to say something that may seem controversial: we should all think twice before acknowledging or praising someone’s visible weight loss.

Via Let's Talk About ED

There are worse things in the world than being fat. I’ve heard quite a few thin women say things like, “Thank God I’m not fat. I’d kill myself.” Or “getting fat would be the worst thing.” Oh? Worse than child abuse, genocide, homophobia, or being allergic to chocolate? Worse than being an asshole? Worse than treating people like crap because of how they look? Is being fat worse than being an ignorant bigot? Worse than being a murderer? Worse than drowning kittens? Amebic dysentery? Losing a loved one? Losing a limb? Hating yourself is pretty damn awful too. Trust me, it’s way worse than being fat.

Insecurity. It’s in all of us. That voice inside that tells us that we can’t do something, that we’re not good enough, that we shouldn’t even try. And when we listen to the voice, we hold ourselves back in ways we don’t even realize, all because we’re scared to take a chance, to face our fears, to see what we’re really capable of.

I suggest all females watch this.

*i suggest all humans watch this.

If you haven’t watched this yet, you really should.

This is a must, girls and boys.

I agree that everyone should watch this. This is one of the few videos on female representation in the media that at least tries to point out that the way females are represented has a negative effect on everyone, not just women.

This video is awesome. And I am currently taking a media literacy class, and I feel like it is one of the most useful classes I have taken so far in high school. And this video would be perfect to show, especially because we are doing a gender studies unit next.

Everyone needs to watch this video and also just be aware of all of the media around you..

wow
